Pilates for Abs


Pilates is a known fitness exercise system that does not only keep a person physically fit but also mentally. Unlike other fitness exercises, Pilates believe in the principle that minimal but quality repetitive routines are more effective than the usual heavy repetitions. The Pilates for abs is one of the most common fitness exercises that most men and women do.

There are different Pilates for abs that can be learned and mastered like Single Leg Stretch, the Double Leg Stretch, and the Criss Cross Legs.

The Single Leg Stretch
This exercise targets the lower abdominals. To start with this exercise, you lie on your back and put both hands on the side. Make yourself look like a small table by brining both knees up to 90 degrees off the floor. Next, lift your head from the mat and breathe in. As you raise your head, reach for one knee and hold it; while stretching the other leg to a 45-degree angle and then breathe out. Repeat the same procedure for the other leg. You can do this 10 times a day.

The Double Leg Stretch
This one is quite challenging compared to the earlier abs exercise. Do the same basic things as the single leg stretch. Create the table position and then lift your head, neck and shoulders off the mat while breathing out. Hold both knees for some seconds and breathe in. Now stretch your arms and legs away from one another so you lengthen your body. Do this exercise for 5 repetitions.

The Criss Cross Legs
If you are familiar with the bicycle crunches, then this exercise must be easy for you. Again, do the table top position; although this time, put your hands or the palm of your hands behind your head. Lift your head, neck and shoulders and breathe in. And then, extend your left leg while brining your right elbow to the left knee – breathe out as you do this. Do 10 repetitions on each leg.

One major factor that will make Pilates for abs beneficial and effective is the proper breathing. Remember that you breathe out when your muscles are engaged and breathe in when you are in a relaxed mode.
