The first time I saw electronic cigarettes was actually when I was on vacation in Las Vegas inside the mall. The guy at the little kiosk booth in the mall was smoking at it. He immediately caught my attention, because he was smoking indoors!
Okay where I’m from, smoking indoors is illegal. So I thought this was maybe some sort of Vegas thing. However, I soon saw a small crowd gather around this guy. People were all curious to look at what exactly this guy was smoking, so following crowd mentality I went closer to see “what the guy was smoking” too.
It turns out this guy was smoking an electronic cigarette. I was so confused.
Long story short, I stood there for 15 minutes while this guy explained what exactly an electronic cigarette is.
So What Are Electronic Cigarettes?
Electronic Cigarettes or e-cigarettes, were created to help people get their fix smoking indoors and/or quit smoking. The e-cigarette consists of three parts: a battery, an atomiser and a nicotine cartridge chamber. Put together, these three parts look remarkably similar to a real cigarette. The battery has the indicator light, and real smoke like vapor is emitted when you use this.
Pros:
Obviously there are a lot of benefits to e-cigarettes such as no ash to deal with, its a lot cheaper than smoking, no carcinogens, no harmful smoke or toxins, no yellow orthodontics or smoker’s breath, you’re helping the environment and you won’t smell up your car, house or office. You basically get your nicotine fix without all the nasty side effects.
I also think it’s better than the patch because you get your oral fixation of having your cigarette in your mouth. And they’re fun to use!
Also a recent study done in 2009, cited that cigarettes contains hundreds of harmful bacteria. You avoid all these by using an e-cigarette.
Cons:
Lots of people are going to look at you while you are smoking this. Which can be a good or bad thing I guess. One of my friends who only smokes e-cigarettes, always has random strangers come up to him on the street while he’s smoking. It’s a great way to meet people and a great conversation starter I guess!
